GridAdvisor sensors

Eaton’s GridAdvisor sensors is a family of products that is used to monitor utility grids of all voltages, currents, overhead, padmount and vault applications. Equipped with integrated communications capabilities, the solution provides for outage management, condition-based asset management, demand profiling, waveform capture and data storage. These sensors provide utilities with valuable insights from their field assets through real-time monitoring, historical performance tracking as well as reviewable event data via Proview NXG software or exported through COMTRADE, all enabling efficient operations, strategic maintenance planning, prevention of costly failures and reduced downtime.

Reliable outage detection
Operational efficiency
Hot stick-installable
Low-cost installations
Native DNP3 protocol support
SCADA visibility

Core features

  • Self-contained, conductor-mounted with patented energy harvesting technology
  • Easy hot stick-installation virtually anywhere on the grid
  • Remote communications real-time data and device management
  • Reliable algorithms for fault detection and outage management
  • Accurate real time load flow monitoring
  • Condition-based asset management functionality

Enhanced features

Demand profiling

Historical logging and retrieval of demand readings along with peak demand tracking supports load planning studies with actual field data.

Advanced post-event analysis

Capture waveforms triggered by fault current events and store them in non-volatile memory for future review. Data is viewable in ProView NXG software and other analytics platforms when exported via COMTRADE format.

Recloser contact lifecycle management

Monitor remaining contact life of recloser assets and drive condition-based maintenance. Based on IEEE-defined recloser duty cycle standards and specific nameplate ratings, these enhancements allow for maintenance planning and prevention of catastrophic failures.

Simplified installation

Energy harvesting technology eliminates wiring to external power sources, simplifying and lowering cost of installation. Simply install with a hot stick for easy deployment on overhead and underground circuits.

Save operation and maintenance costs

Leverage the GridAdvisor sensors as a communicating fault indicator to use standardized communications protocols to respond to disturbances on the line and more quickly restore outages. Harness the power of new, low-bandwidth IOT cellular networks to obtain critical system information – reducing drive time and maximizing energy dollars by keeping capacitors online and operating at peak efficiency.
